About the Safe Hometowns Initiative

The Safe Hometowns Initiative is a group of organizations and individuals sharing urgent concern regarding the threat to public safety posed by the use and storage of extremely hazardous chemicals in thousands of American communities. The initiative encourages government and industry to protect American communities from the risk of a catastrophic chemical release, whether accident or an act of terrorism, by putting prevention first. This means giving top priority to applying inherently safer technologies, such as using safer chemicals and reducing chemical quantities.
